Diploma — Accounting Clerk

This 32-credit diploma expands on the accounting foundations established in the certificate program by focusing on core business courses and fundamentals of accounting principles. Courses will provide the knowledge and skills needed to perform calculating, journalizing, posting and verifying duties in order to maintain accounting records, prepare payroll reports and state and federal tax returns. Coursework blends of both manual and computerized accounting concepts and software applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel, so students are well prepared for employment upon graduation.

Employment

Program graduates will be prepared to work as accounting assistants or accounting clerks. Bookkeeping, accounting and auditing clerks are in high demand in a variety of settings such as public accounting firms, banks, hospitals, school districts, government agencies, corporations, private business and non-profit agencies. It has been projected that more than 6,300 additional bookkeeping, accounting and auditing clerks would be required to meet market demand between 2012-2022.

Next Steps

All credits earned in the 32-credit Accounting Clerk Diploma program can be applied to the 60-credit AAS program at NTC. Additional courses will focus on markets and resources allocation, ethics, business statistics and non-profit accounting.
