The 18-credit certificate program prepares graduates for employment as a human resources assistant or specialist.
The Human Resources program at Northwest Technical College will equip students with the knowledge and skills in human resource practices that are needed at the technical, operational and management level of any business.
This program is designed for students who either are employed in or desire to be employed in the field but lack formal education in its laws and processes. Students will learn about the impact of major laws and court decisions affecting human resource managers and be able to assist in conducting job analyses, assist in the recruitment and selection process, advise hiring supervisors regarding legal and ethical issues and apply reflective thinking and self-management in professional settings.

Northwest Minnesota is outpacing the rest of the state in the need for additional human resources specialists. Knowledge of human resource practices is also valuable for office and personnel managers in the private and public sectors, as well as business owners and entrepreneurs who are planning to launch or expand a business.
This 18-credit certificate will prepare students for a successful career in human resources by giving them the foundational knowledge of the applicable laws, processes and ethical issues in the field. Coursework for the certificate includes payroll, human resources management, principles of management, supervisory leadership and computerized business application.
Next Steps
Human Resources coursework can provide a strong foundation for continued study in other business-related areas. Credits earned through this certificate can be applied in full toward NTC’s Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Business.
