HLTH 1110 Nursing Assistant is a three-credit course that prepares individuals to become a nursing assistant. Course completion is required for the Practical Nursing diploma and the Associate of Science (AS) degree in Nursing-Traditional RN. Students who complete the course are also eligible to take the state certification exam for the Minnesota Department of Health’s nursing assistant registry.

Nursing Assistants are currently employed in acute-care hospitals, state hospitals, long-term care facilities including nursing homes and rehabilitation hospitals, clinics and physicians’ offices, group homes and child care centers, health care and public health agencies, armed services, school nursing, industry and private homes.

After Nursing Assistant Course Completion
Individuals who complete the Nursing Assistant course are eligible to take the state certification exam for the Minnesota Department of Health’s Nursing Assistant registry.
Successful completion of the full test (Knowledge and Skills tests) enables students to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) as required by the Minnesota Department of Health and to be posted on the state registry.
The Knowledge Exam consists of seventy (70) multiple-choice questions written in English (oral test available by request). The Skills are performed as scenarios. The RN Test Observer will observe your demonstration of your skills tasks on a real “actor” and record what they see you do. Headmaster scoring teams will officially score and double check your Test.
