On Aug. 4, Northwest Technical College will welcome the Big Ideas Road Show for a day full of hands-on activities that promote hands-on careers in the trades.
Open free to the public, the road show’s Mobile Learning Lab will be parked on campus from 8:30-4 p.m. and
The lab, situated in the trailer of a semi-truck, has built-in activities that promote trades careers including virtual or augmented reality classrooms for welding, industrial painting and heavy equipment operation. Each classroom allows learners to experience and practice the basic physical mechanics of each trade first-hand.
In addition, the road show’s learning unit also features the TransFR virtual reality career exploration program that houses over 20 trades simulations including automotive maintenance, crane operations and fire suppression.
The event will be held in collaboration with Bemidji Bi-Cap’s YouthBuild program which provides an opportunity for youth aged 16- 24 who have exited the traditional school system to learn academic, leadership and construction skills.
Representatives from the Northwest Tech Office of Admissions will be available throughout the day for questions and registration.
